Monday 23rd February 2004 -- This Saturday (28th February) sees Darlington & District Motor Club host the penultimate round of the ANECCC Winter Rallycross Championship at Croft Circuit near Darlington.

Aimed directly at the Clubman competitor, the proposed four round series kicked off at Croft in December but a lack of entries forced round two at Blyton earlier in the month to be cancelled. However, with the opening round of the 2004 British Rallycross Championship just one month away, competitors will be out in force this weekend with nearly fifty competitors set to do battle once again.

Leader of the series after the opening round is Redcar's Adrian Horsley and he will once again be at the wheel of his Stockhatch Citroen Saxo as he goes in search of more points. Hounding him down is sure to be second placed Northallerton driver Dave Bellerby in his rapid Modified Vauxhall Nova whilst the unique BMW Mini of Gosforth's David Binks will be looking to improve on his third place in the standings.

Chasing Horsley for Stockhatch honours is likely to be Great Ayton driver Ian Horn (Nova) whilst Houghton le Spring's Lance Foster gave an impressive showing in his 1400cc Mini last time out in the Modified class and will be looking to do the same this time. But with the likes of Metro drivers Des Wheatley from Hartlepool and Borrowby's Brian Thornton along with the radical Renault 5 of Bishop Middleham driver Michael Bourner, the battle for victory is sure to be intense.

Minicross class leader Amy Binks from Low Fell shoulders local hopes in that class whilst the Junior category will see West Midlander Andrew Jordan try to defend his series lead as he locks horns with Yorkshiremen Luke Sparrow and Tommi Walmsley again.

Harrogate driver Steve Bussey will spearhead the Rallycar class in his Ford Cosworth after turbo failure ruled him out last time.

Practice starts at 10.30am with the qualifying heats getting underway at 11.15 followed by a lunch break. The last of the heats and finals will follow straight after with the minimum of delay expected. Admission costs a bargain £5.00 for adults with accompanied children under 16 admitted free.
