Pearcey aims for hat-trick in Wales.
Yorkshire ace Tim Pearcey aims to extend his lead in the Kumho Clubman Rally Championship this weekend, as the series contenders travel to Mid Wales to contest the Mutiny Clubman Rally -- Round 3 of the competitive series.
After convincing wins on the opening rounds of the Kumho Tyres backed series in Yorkshire and North Wales, Pearcey and co-driver Mick Johnson will try to consolidate their points lead on the smooth and flowing stages near to the base town of Llandrindod Wells.
Chasing the Yorkshire pair all the way will be three Kumho Championship stalwarts. Andy Gwynne, reigning Kumho Super 1600 Champion, is likely to go well in Mid Wales and will certainly feature at the top of the 1600cc class timesheets in his Vauxhall Corsa Kit Car. Ford Escort men James Potter and Alistair Adams will also be on the pace after differing starts to the season. Potter is never far away from the podium and Adams returns with renewed confidence this season after rebuilding his Escort over the winter months.
Newcomers to the series Dave Brick and Stuart Clarke also add yet more classic Mk2 Ford Escort's to the fold as they look to make an impact on the results for the first time in the series. Championship regulars Craig Dykes, Peter Rayner, George Collister and Paul Daniel will also be looking to feature after 45 miles of dry and dusty stages next weekend.
One man definitely not to be discounted for honours is the well travelled Scot Allan McDowall. The Tarbolton man owns one of the rarer cars in the series - an immaculately prepared Opel Kadett RWD. McDowall and co-driver Gavin Heseltine have often featured on the podium over the past two seasons, but overall success has yet to come their way -- despite getting within a stage of doing so on last years Park Systems Rally. McDowall will certainly be keen to be on the pace next weekend.
The Motorsport Direct Cup also features on the event, and a strong battle for honours is expected between the likes of Andy Gwynne, BTRDA 1400 hotshot James Wozencroft, and the experienced Dave Beesley and John Brooks. All crews will no doubt feature in their respective 1400 and 1600cc class battles, although Wozencroft is still trying to source an engine for his Nova after a recent engine failure on the Red Dragon Rally.
Making a welcome return to the Championship is the ever popular Winston Clarke. The Twickenham garage owner has missed the opening round of the Championship after deciding to fit an uprated engine to his familiar yellow Escort. Further down the entry list sees a strong entry lined up in the 1600cc class. Motorsport Direct proprietor Iain Shirlaw brings his ex-Martin Meadows Proton Satria Kit Car to the event, with Welshman Iwan Evans bringing his similar Satria to the event as well.
Steve and Clare Shenton will also look to feature in the battle for class honours in their Peugeot 106, whilst the Skoda Felicia of rally novices Anthony Jackson and Stuart Lawson rounds off what looks a very competitive thirty six car field.
