A weekend to forget!
The British rallycross championship kicked off last weekend with the first two rounds taking place in Northern Ireland at Kirkistown and Nutts corner. The weekend turned out to be one to forget for the JMC rallysport.com team as a unbelievable series of mechanical problems overcame the team.
Kirkistown-Sat 27th March
John was very positive as he arrived at the Kirkistown circuit on Saturday morning and with bright sunshine and a fast track the receipe was there for a good result. After a perfect practice session, the gremlins arrived! Misfires, low revs and two blown turbos meant John ended up cruising around in the Supercar final just to attain some points. His only comfort being that most of his rivals were encountering worse fortune which put them out of the event.. Carnegie ( head gasket ), Doran ( blown engine ). A 6th place finish was far from the result he expected but a least it was a result!
Nutts corner-Sun 28th March
The team had an early start on Sunday morning to change another turbo so it was an early night on Saturday for the JMC rallysport.com team ( room service and asleep for 10.30!! ). A misty morning with occassional drizzle provided a greasy, tight Nutts corner track. John again had a great start to the day and won his 1st heat and was 4th and within a 1 second gap that separated Gollop,Gibson & Carnegie. However, as with the previous day it all went steadily downhill from there and after sucessive niggly problems and adjustments to the Peugeot, John lined up 3rd on the grid for the Supercar A final behind Carnegie & Gibson. Using a high setting for the launch on the start, the rear differential cried enough and to make matters worse, after struggling around the track for 2 laps, the problem resulted in John crashing into the tyrewall for a small impact. A disaster end to a disaster weekend. There was however some positives to be taken from the events as Gtech had made adjustments to both the suspensions and engine which John was very pleased with. It will now be a race against time to have the car ready for Lydden at Easter. Fingers crossed!!
