Melinda Price to Race Team Brock Futureracer at Sandown!

One of Australia's most experienced female racers, Melinda Price, is preparing herself to drive the Team Brock Futureracer at this weekend's Sandown PROCAR Champ Series event.

Price has had the privilege of driving a wide range of racing vehicles throughout her extensive career, from a Volkswagen Beetle at the Nurburgring 24 Hour, alongside Sir Jack Brabham, to a factory backed Holden Vectra in the Australian Production Car Championship, through to a Cirtek Porsche in the Bathurst 24 Hour and with the Castrol Cougars Holden V8 Supercar Team in the Bathurst 1000.

"It's been a while since I've actually had a race, so I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the Team Brock Futureracer," Melinda said from her Melbourne base. "I've driven a US Legend before at the Thunderdome, so I know the style of car, but I'm certainly looking forward to driving a car that handles and has decent brakes!"

Melinda will become the first female racer to race Futureracers, first of many to follow.

"Futureracers has been designed around attracting female and young racers, who may not have done any racing, to enable them to get into the sport and train them in various aspects of going motor racing," explained Category Manager, Bill O'Gorman. "Through our partnership with Team Brock Driving Life, we are able to facilitate such programs and give anyone who may be fairly new to the sport the opportunity to work closely with the Team Brock instructors to improve their skills."

Futureracers competitors have the privilege of Team Brock Driving Life observers observing them at each race meeting and conducting a private debrief with them following each session.

"Throughout my career I have always strived to be an ambassador for female racers and to prove that the 'supposed' boundaries that are placed in front of females can be broken through," said Melinda. "The car doesn't know whether it's a female or a male driving it, so once we are out on the track, all the talk is inconsequential. If I can encourage females into the entry-level of the sport through Futureracers and go some way to make it easier for them to feel more comfortable, then I will do my utmost."

Price will be behind the wheel of the Team Brock Futureracers Car. O'Gorman added that it is a privilege to have Price driving with Futureracers.

"To have somebody of Melinda's experience joining us this weekend means a great deal to us. She has proved on numerous occasions that she is very competitive and will really put it to some of our regular competitors."

O'Gorman also stated that the recent ceasing of operations by PROCAR Australia has not affected Futureracers overall plans.

"As far as we are concerned, it is business as usual," he observed. "We have an undertaking to build our race series into a strong entry-level category to support the revamped PROCAR Champ Series and the new competitor-based Committee of Management has our wholehearted and 100% support." Category Manager, Bill O'Gorman, joins other representatives from all PROCAR categories on the Committee.

This weekend's event will be the second Futureracers preview round, prior to the Series beginning at Winton's PROCAR Champ Series event next month. The first Oran Park Preview Round was taken out by Queenslander, Mike Kilpatrick.

Futureracers will participate in a Practice and Qualifying session on Friday, one race on Saturday, prior to completing their program with two races on Sunday.
