The Holden Monaro freight-train continued to be the team to beat at the Bathurst 24 Hour as the race completed the 20 hour mark.
Last year's winners Cameron McConville, Garth Tander, Steven Richards and Nathan Pretty held a narrow lead over Peter Brock's #05 machine which he is sharing with V8 Supercar 1000 winner Greg Murphy, Jason Bright and Todd Kelly.
Brock is aiming to clinch a tenth victory at Mount Panorama but will have to chase down his team-mates to complete the record.
The Falken Tyres Porsche of Paul Morris, Peter Fitzgerald, Scott Shearman and John Teulan continued to hold third place, holding a one lap advantage over the Class B Porsche of the Alzen brothers.
Martin Short has fought hard to lift the Mosler MT900R into fifth place, recording the fastest lap of the race -- 2:15.10 -- on lap 333.
This shades the best outright lap from both the Monaros who recorded best laps 3/10ths of a second slower.
The Lamborghini is in ninth place, having suffered six tyre failures since the race start at 2 pm. The team has changed tyre compounds to try to cure the problem.
The Cirtek Porsche GT3 RS that led the majority of last year's event retired just after 8 am with electrical problems.
The Alfa-Romeo #156 has crashed heavily into Konica Minolta bend at 9.30am, burying its nose under the tyres at the exit of Mountain Straight.
Alfa driver Keith Downie emerged from the car unhurt, but their race is over.
The BMW M3 of Peter Boylan, Geoff Morgan, Peter Hansen and Neil Bates continued to hold the Class D lead aboard the BMW M3.
A former Porsche and Dodge Viper driver, Morgan has greatly enjoyed the chance to race the BMW and is targeting an attack on several international 24 hours races in 2004.
"This is a great little car and I have really enjoyed the chance to race it this year," Morgan said.
"We are talking about doing Daytona, Spa and the Nurburgring next year and I also can't wait to come back to Bathurst next year.
"It would be great to run a Viper in this race - I think that would be a blast."
Toyota also moved into contention for a class victory in Class E with the Colin Osborne squad pushing it's Toyota Celica to the race lead.
The Class F lead was held by the Holden Commodore VX combination led by Sydney driver Terry Bosnjak.
The race will finish later today at 2.00 pm.
