An agreement between Rouse-Hall Motorsport Innovations and British Motorsport Promoters Ltd (BMP) has recently been signed, which will ensure that a new series for Supercars will commence in 2001. BMP will hold joint rights to the series and will invest heavily in its long-term promotion.

The cars will be a modern and European version of a NASCAR car, but will retain a close visual identity to road-going models by using the original bodywork. They will be powered by a 3.5 ltr 400 bhp engine, have a six-speed sequential gearbox, wishbone suspension, and rear-wheel drive.

Rouse-Hall will be responsible for supplying complete and ready-to-race cars, and there will be more than twenty-five different makes to chose from. The series will be officially launched at the Autosport Show in January, where a factory supported Peugeot 406 Supercar will be on display.

BMP, as the promoter, will organise the championship as the main event of a major package, and allocate races to all the premier circuits. Their aim is to create a high level racing series for exciting and powerful cars, which is within reach of the many aspiring drivers who do not have major motorsport funding.

The championship format is for teams of three drivers, sharing a car at dedicated race meetings, which will feature three sprint races and three qualifying sessions. The three drivers will score points from all finishing positions, for team and drivers championships.

There will be twelve race meetings and thirty-six races, which will provide many opportunities for young drivers, and those new to touring cars, to compete in the same car as their more experienced team mates.
