Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Looks Ahead to Barber After Strong Homestead Opener

Tooele, UT-- (24 March 2009)--The teams and drivers in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge have returned home following a successful two-race weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway to start the 2009 season, and everyone is already looking ahead to the series first-ever headlining race outing as the feature presentation at the 45th anniversary celebration of the Ford Mustang at Barber Motorsports Park April 18-19.

The event is expected to draw a huge crowd of passionate participants, not to mention a breath-taking array of Ford Mustang machines from through the years. The weekend will be the second two-race weekend of the season, making the Barber event a potentially critical one for Mustang racers with championship intentions. Several of the racers will be scanning their race footage from last season, as the Barber visit marks the first race return visit to a track for Mustang Challenge.

Championship Standings After Round 2:

The Mustang Challenge championship point standings were released following the Homestead race weekend, with a familiar name atop the sheets as 2008 Mustang Challenge Champion Andrew Caddell parlayed his win and runner-up results at Homestead into the top spot in the championship order. Jim Click Racing's Mike McGovern, who finished the 2008 Mustang Challenge season 3rd in the standings, turned his double-podium performance at Homestead into 2nd in the order, as Hoover, Alabama's Joe Lee Middlebrooks also had a strong opening weekend to lock in third in the order ahead of his hometown race at Barber Motorsports Park.

Steve Phillips had his best weekend of Mustang Challenge competition to date to score 4th in the order, as Ted Anthony Jr. leapfrogged to 5th in the order following his fine run to Victory Lane in race 2 at Homestead.
