ROME -- Vallelunga 6 hours count-down has been set off. The international endurance race organized by Peroni Promotion Incentive on Vallelunga circuit, just outside Rome, will see drivers, teams and cars coming from all Europe meeting on Capitoline track from the 10th to the 13th November to set up Vallelunga 6 Hours XV Edition divided into the two now traditional challenges: Gold Cup for GT and Sport Prototype cars and Silver Cup for Touring cars.
2005 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Vallelunga 6 Hours: the renewal of Vallelunga circuit, now extended to 4.085 meters against previous 3.222, will actually bring forth the need to write again all kermess previous records. A "cycle" of this race thus ends which, for people keen on statistics, sees the record in number of laps covered in Gold Cup and Silver Cup awarded to McLaren F1 GTR in 1997 and to VW Bora Variant Tdi in 2001, with 285 and 255 laps respectively.
a bit of history. Vallelunga 6 Hours was born in 1973 as Italian appointment of Makes World Championship, a feature it preserved until 1980. In 1991, so after a long break, Sergio Peroni decides on re-inventing the race: at first a sole race is thence set up, doubling his commitment afterwards with the Gold Cup and Silver Cup, a race this last which in some edition has been split to offer the large number of cars entered the possibility to take the start.
2005 REGULATION CHANGES. Besides the track length increase, which for many drivers will be a new challenge to face, Peroni Promotion Incentive, in order to meet teams request, established to raise at 4 for each car drivers maximum number settled before at 3, preserving 2 drivers minimum. Maximum continuous driving time remains however four hours which should be followed by at least one hour rest. We find a few news also in the admitted classes. In Gold Cup the Megane Trophy, the car which set up Renault European Championship, has been added, while BTCS championship Silhouettes as Opel Astra, BMW M3 and Jaguar X-Type, this last amongst the protagonists -- bad luck apart -- of 2004 edition, have been shifted to Silver Cup. If Silver Cup doesn't offer peculiar news, is worth to underline the renewed confrontation between petrol and diesel engines, ever one of the subject of interest in endurance challenges, with diesel engines capturing the Roman race general standings in many occasions.
