Cleveland, Ohio - Tommy Archer drove the number 36 Cinjo Racing/Motorcity True Performance Viper to a fourth place finish in a wild round five of the Trans-Am race for the BF Goodrich Cup at Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport.

The race was declared a "wet race" by the SCCA officials five minutes prior to the cars rolling out for the pace lap. As the cars idled on the grid the rain stopped and the track began to dry. On the second pace lap Archer brought the Viper in and the Cinjo crew made the switch to slicks. The gamble sent the Minnesota driver back to 21st position, two laps down after being held in pit lane as the field went by.

As the track began to dry Archer was able to get up to full speed, setting fast time of the race on lap 20 with a 1:14.851, only slightly above his qualifying effort. As the airport circuit continued to dry Archer was making up three places per lap. On lap 40, in pursuit of Johnny Miller for the final podium position, Archer was attempting to pass three cars and spun going into turn seven.

The team has filed an official protest based upon Archer being held at pit exit by the officials for an extra lap following the change to slick tires. If this did not occur the Cinjo Team could have won their first race.

The Cleveland race will be televised on CBS on July 1 at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Tommy Archer: "We made the right call to go to slicks. I spun once trying to get going at the exit of turn one. As the track dried out the race came back to us. "

"The way we see it we took the green in pit lane which should have only put us at the back of the field on the same lap. We then lapped the field and would have been ahead at the end. We had the fastest car on the track. I feel bad for the team, we are hungry for that first win."

Joe Tranchida, owner, Cinjo Racing: "Tommy had to call upon his ice racing experience today. He did an excellent job to bring the car back to fourth position and get an extra point by setting the fastest lap of the race. The protest is in belief that we were wrongfully held in pit lane after our tire change."
