Clinton Township, Mich. - Tommy Archer will return to the controls of the number 36 Cinjo Racing/Motorcity True Performance Viper at the Tommy Bahama 125 Trans-Am race at Portland International Raceway. Archer is recovering from injuries he sustained in a testing accident three weeks ago.
Although still a little sore, Archer is poised to return. "I am little bit stiff still, but I feel better every day. My ribs are still a little tender, but once I get behind the wheel I will forget all about it. It was tough to watch the race at Sears from home," said Archer.
The 1.94-mile, 12-turn Portland International Raceway is the opposite of Sears Point. "Portland is a track that you have to be on the money there, it is short with not many turns so there is little room for error to make good lap times. It is a high speed track that puts a premium on horsepower," commented Archer.
Archer is currently sits in sixth place in the series driver's points standings. "Being 58 points out of the lead is not insurmountable. We need to have five really good races and have some bad luck happen to the guys in front of us. It would also be nice to win a race or two this year. We have had a couple of instances that haven't helped our situation like me getting hurt," continued Archer.
"At the halfway point of the season we are sixth in points, which is pretty good considering we lost Tommy for Sears Point. We can still have a very successful season with some good runs and good luck. The team is behind Tommy 100%," said Joe Tranchida, owner, Cinjo Racing.
The Portland race will be televised live on Speedvision, August 4 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
