Clinton Township, Mich. - Tommy Archer put the number 36 Cinjo Racing/Motorcity True Performance Viper on pole position for the Tommy Bahama 125 Trans-Am race to be run at Portland International Raceway tomorrow.

Although Archer is still sore from his testing injuries he was able to post a time of 1:13.905 and a speed of 94.6 mph to start from pole position. The Duluth, Minnesota native put in the fast time on his fifth lap of the qualifying session. Archer's second fastest lap was a 1:14.020 which was also good enough to take the pole.

"It is the first time in the car since my injury, so it really feels good to come back and get the first pole for the team in the Viper. The track conditions were pretty good, I was able to get the power down. I have a lot of experience here at Portland, previously in the Viper ALMS car, so I new what to expect," said Archer. "I need every point for the rest of the season to make up for missing the Sears Point race. The Cinjo guys have put in a lot of work on the car this year, so it is great to get the pole."

Archer will be decorated with the Motorcity True Performance Pole Award and a check for $2,500.00 at the beginning of the race tomorrow.

"It is a big boost for the team and a great feeling to get our first pole position," said Joe Tranchida, owner, Cinjo Racing. "We have spent a lot of effort developing the Viper and it is beginning to pay off. We will now focus on our pit stop strategy for tomorrow and concentrate on the race."

The Portland race will be televised live on Speedvision, August 4 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
