CENTENNIAL, Colo. (August 17, 2001)-SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. unveiled its new logo today, featuring a new, aggressive look, and the return of its parent company, the Sports Car Club of America, as a focal point.
Sticking with its traditional red and black motif, the new logo incorporates a checkered flag along with the block SCCA letters prominently displayed in red along the top of a black rhombus, with the italicized words "PRO RACING."
"Over the years, the Pro Racing logo has gotten progressively more generic and away from its identity," said SCCA Pro Racing President Steve Johnson. "The new logo leans forward aggressively, mimicking the new attitude in Pro Racing to make bold decisions and moves to better road racing in the United States.
"The logo also brings back Pro Racing's identity of being a major part of the SCCA. No other organization can boast 60,000 active member participants in support of its professional racing products. All professional road racing series in North America benefit from the expertise of SCCA members, so it's only fitting that they receive prominent recognition on some of the most intense and attractive racecars on the track today."
The new logo will be phased in over the next several months, with its on-track debut coming at the August 24-26 Trans-Am/NeOhio National/American Le Mans Series event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. For the first time, track marshals' vests will display the logo on national television during the live ALMS broadcast on NBC and the tape-delayed Trans-Am broadcast on Speedvision.
SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sports Car Club of America, Inc. SCCA Pro Racing sanctions the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup, the nation's longest continuously-running road racing series; the Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships, the top production-based, sprint format racing series in North America; and the Pro Spec Racer series, an entry-level professional series utilizing SCCA's popular identically-prepared sports racers. SCCA Pro Racing will celebrate its 40th year of competition in 2002.
