MARRS Entries Higher Than the Pollen Count

April 25, 2001: While allergy suffers are lamenting the near record pollen count during the April 27/28 weekend, Washington DC racing fans will be enjoying a record number of entries for the first Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS) race of the year. The race, held at West Virginia's Summit Point Raceway, already has 293 cars entered and it is likely that more entries will arrive in the remaining three days before the event. "We're almost in a Double MARRS situation here," said Gayle Lorenz, Competition Director for the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America.

The weekend likely will see the largest field of Spec-RX7's ever to race at Summit Point Raceway. The entry count already stands at 50 cars - the maximum that the Region may put on the course at a single time without a obtaining a waiver. The Spec-RX7 class is a single-car class based on the first generation Mazda RX7. The allowable modifications are few and primarily are concerned with safety standards.

Admission for the weekend is only $25 for a weekend pass or $15 for a Sunday-only ticket. There is no charge for camping and children under the age of 12 enter free. For more information, contact 1-888-660-5039.
