April 24, 2002: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that 299 cars have entered this weekend's Shenandoah Sprints presented by Moore Cadillac. The car count would eclipse the single event record set in 2001. The race will be the first race in the 2002 Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series and will be held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV.
"Drivers know that MARRS events offer the best road racing on the East Coast and the high car count reflects this," said Jeff Janoska, DC Region PR Liaison. Janoska added that the Region added two new classes -- Spec Miata and Super Production -- for the 2002 season. "The Spec Miatas should put on a good race and we're likely to pick up a few entries as people get their cars together at the last minute."
Saturday will be practice and qualifying. Sunday will see nine races, regardless of the weather. Tickets are still available from Summit Point Raceway by calling (304) 725-8444.
