Gabi DiCarlo Wins Big at the SCCA Regional Event
Phoenix, Ariz. -- November 3, 2004 -- Star Mazda racer and 2004 star mazda red line oil championship rookie of the year Gabi DiCarlo raced her way to a back-to-back first place victory at the Sports Car Club of America Arizona (SCCA) Double Regional Event at the Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix.
Gabi was especially excited about her wins because she had the opportunity to race on her hometown track. "Although the track is in my hometown, I do not get many chances to be on it, so it was very exciting to do so well on a track that I'm not too familiar with. It was also great to start the season out with back to back wins," said Gabi. .
On Saturday Gabi started the race in fourth place, but quickly chased the leader and made a pass in turn one for the lead and on lap 16 and continued on for the win. On Sunday Gabi struggled in practice with the car's handling, but was in control when it counted. With 10 laps to go, she closed a six second gap between herself and the leader. Then, with four laps to go, Gabi made a pass in turn one for the lead and the win.
"The help and support from my teammates, pit crew, Great Clips and Moses Smith Racing are a major contribution to the success we're experiencing. I can never thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to the team," added Gabi.
Gabi is enthusiastic about upcoming races and plans on running the Star Mazda Red Line Oil Championship starting in January.
