GOODYEAR-EQUIPPED CARS RACE TO 14 WINS AT MID-OHIO
LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 5, 2005) -- Drivers using Goodyear tires won 14 of 23 classes in a Sports Car Club of America regional race held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The track will be the site of the 2005 SCCA National Championship Runoffs in September.
Goodyear has long been the winningest tiremaker in amateur racing's major competitions. For example, Goodyear-shod racers have won 64 percent of the SCCA's national championships in the last three years.
In the Mid-Ohio regional event, Goodyear-shod cars won in four open-wheeled classes, three General Touring classes, four Production classes and three others. Goodyear equipped cars won on both bias-ply and DOT radial tires.
John LaRue started from the pole and won the Formula Ford race. Fred Edwards did the same in the Formula 500 race. Rob Nicholas won in Formula Mazda and Mike Sirianni won in D Sports Racer.
Don Soenen won the GT1 race, Tom Patton won in GT2 and Bill Davidson was the GTL winner.
In the Production classes, Sam Halkias won in E, Rick Haynes was the F winner, Kevin Dennis won in G and Tom Feller won in H.
In DOT radial classes, Andy McDermid was the American Sedan winner, Touring 1 went to multi-time national champion John Heinricy and Don Knowles won the Touring 2 race.
Goodyear's performance in the regional race at Mid-Ohio was especially notable because the event has traditionally been a good indicator among tiremakers for the Runoffs.
