DRIVERS RACING ON GOODYEAR TIRES WIN SEVEN TIMES IN FIRST DAY OF SCCA JUNE SPRINTS

ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (June 26, 2005) -- Drivers using Goodyear tires won seven class victories in 10 chances in the first day of the 50th running of the Kohler/Chicago Region SCCA June Sprints at Road America.

The June Sprints feature 23 classes of racing with 22 classes open to competition between tiremakers. It is the first leg of amateur racing's Triple Crown and one of the key events of the SCCA season.

Goodyear-equipped drivers took 16 of the available 30 podium positions Saturday, swept the podium in three races and finished first overall in two of the three races. The size of the event forces organizers to combine classes in several races.

Amateur racing is a fertile ground for competition among tiremakers. No less than eight tire companies are competing in this year's June Sprints. There were nearly 500 entrants.

The Goodyear winners included Aaron Ellis (Indianapolis, Ind.) in Formula 500, Brad Stout (St. Louis, Mo.) in Formula Vee, Bill Davidson (Dexter, MI) in GT Light, Lawrence Loshak (Glendale, Wisc.) in E Production, Gerald Lamb (Oswego, Ill.) in F Production, Bill Wessel (Madison, Wisc.) in G Production and Chris Crisenbery (Parma, MI) in H Production.

The Triple Crown is awarded to drivers who win their class in the June Sprints, their region and in the National Championship Runoffs.

Sunday's racing will include five more races for 13 more classes.
