DIXON WINS 2010 F1000 CHAMPIONSHIP
ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (September 28, 2010) - Brandon Dixon put an exclamation point on his stellar F1000 season by winning the season-ending SCCA Runoffs Championship race in convince fashion. Dixon came into the final race at Road America with a sizable points lead in the F1000 National Championship presented by George Dean Racing Engines and Taylor Race Engineering, but with 4 other competitors with a mathematical shot at taking the title, should Dixon encounter trouble. They wouldn't get the chance.
Dixon qualified in the 3rd spot but once the green flag waved, he wasted no time in putting his Citation at the front of the pack. He took the lead on the first and never gave it up for the remaining 12 laps. Behind him, however, was chaos. As the field entered turn 1 at the start, several cars checked up and there was contact among most of the lead pack, except Dixon. Jeremy Hill and J.R. Osborne got the worst of it, sliding into the turn 1 gravel trap. They were able to continue but their chance at a podium was over.
Polesitter Tom Schwietz was not able to match the pace set by Dixon but was good enough to take the second step on the podium. Pre-race favorite Niki Coello held on for 3rd place. Glenn Cooper, driving with a severely damaged front wing, managed to move up a spot from his starting position, taking 4th, Bill McLaughlin moved up 3 spots to finish 5th, and David Burkett rounded out the top 6.
For his effort, Dixon took home the top championship prize of $1,000 plus an additional bonus of $500 for winning the Championship race. Glenn Cooper took the 2nd spot in the season-long championship, which is good for $800, and Niki Coello rallied to finish 3rd, only one point behind Cooper in the final tally, earning $600.
