Goodyear-Shod Cars Win Four Times on Final Day of Runoffs

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Sept. 26, 2004) -- Drivers racing on Goodyear tires closed out the 2004 version of the Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs presented by Kohler with four wins and 13 podium finishes, the best results among tiremakers.

Goodyear's three-day totals came to 15 victories, more than all other tiremakers combined, and 38 podium finishes, an industry best. Goodyear-equipped teams also swept the podium once on Sunday, bringing the week's sweeps total to five.

"They work with us," said Michael Mazziotti, the GT4 national champion. "You can't ask for anything more. You get to talk to people that can make a difference, both technically and in general help."

Goodyear's Sunday victories came in GT1, Formula Ford, G Production and GT4.

Lew Larimer's win in GT1 was a dominating performance in which he led every lap and had a 23-second victory margin. "I backed off a little with three or four laps to go," Larimer said. "I just kept looking back and seeing nothing."

Scott Rarick's victory in Formula Ford was part of a podium sweep. He inherited the lead when the original leader fell out with mechanical trouble. "I think our Goodyear tires would have had something for him at the end," Rarick said. "You can see how many Goodyear cars there are up here (on the podium), they make a great product."

Mark Dennis won the G Production race, then carried Goodyear's Joan Stiller around the track in his race car for the traditional victory lap. Stiller plans to later this year and was attending her 38th Runoffs.

"I was happy to be able to do that," Dennis said of Stiller's ride. He added, "Those tires were the best I have ever had. We scrubbed them Monday and put them away. The 475 compound comes in early and it stays--I ran 20 qualifying laps."

Goodyear has now won 56 races in the last four Runoffs.
