Cindi Lux battles to first and second place finishes in a double header race weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. -- May 26, 2003 -- Cindi Lux took her No. 78 Kumho Tire/Redline Oil/Kodiak Racing Wheel Z06 Corvette sponsored by Suburban Chevrolet through the finish line for a second place finish and win during Saturday and Sunday's SCCA races at Pacific Raceways (formerly Seattle International Raceway), located outside of Seattle, Wash.

Lux and her NayKid Racing teammate Scotty B. White, who started on the pole with a new lap record setting time, lapped the entire field during Saturday's race with Lux coming in a close second to White's win. At the checkered flag there was only .88 seconds separating the two Z06 Corvettes. Both drivers were running a race pace well below the previous lap record.

Sunday's race proved to be more of a nail biter and spectator favorite of the weekend's races with an exciting door-to-door style of racing. In Saturday's race, White "out foxed" Lux into turn two and this time things were a little different. As the green flag fell, White and Lux were side-by-side, inches apart for the first three turns. At the end of the first lap, Lux was leading with White hot in pursuit. The pair swapped places five to six times over the course of the race. The race was shortened by three laps due to a four-car pile up and ended under a yellow flag with Lux taking the win at the checkered flag.

"I'm really jazzed with the results. I haven't driven here in 10 years, but with Scotty giving me some pointers, it proved to be a successful weekend. I forgot how much I enjoy racing here. The car was great and the Kumho Tires were extremely predictable and fast. It's always fun to drive hard and aggressive with someone close to you the entire race and with that someone being my teammate, it made it even more exciting. We just had a great time out there," Lux said of her weekend.

The team debuted its NayKid Racing-built 2001 Z06 Corvette this past race weekend during practice sessions. The new T1 car will make its maiden voyage with White behind the wheel during next race at Rose Cup weekend in Portland, Ore. on June 13-15. "I am always fired up about racing at the Rose Cup because of my family's history with the early years of this race. It's just very special to my family. Plus, we will have our third teammate Rick Gilhart back with us," Lux said. Lux's father won the prestigious Rose Cup Race the first two years of its existence in 1961 and 1962.

Not resting on their recent success, Lux and her teammate White will be testing at Portland International Raceway on June 4 in preparation for Rose Cup weekend.

Also on this test day, a lucky recipient will receive a ride of their life with Lux in her Z06 Corvette. The team donated two items to help raise money for a charity auction for Lincoln High School in Portland; one being five hot laps on-track with Lux and the second item is the opportunity to join NayKid Racing as a VIP crew member during the Rose Cup weekend race. Both of these unique items were quickly grabbed up and raised considerable amount of money at the charity auction.
