Krause Wins 28th Annual LouElla Cook SCCA Double National

Longtime Professional Coach, Skip Barber Instructor and North Carolina Region-SCCA /SVRA Chief Instructor Peter Krause drove by Great Lakes Division National Championship race winner and class pole-sitter Corey Fergus on the outside of Turn 1 at start of the fast formula/sports racing car group race and went on to hold off Fergus for the Sports 2000 victory on a rapidly drying track. Krause's Lola T-88/90, a marque celebrating it's fiftieth anniversary, as well as Fergus' immaculate, Randy Hartman-prepared Carbir CS2 ran well all race.

Krause was ecstatic with his hard-won win. "After qualifying, this was completely unexpected. In the dry Corey and John had me covered, but in the wet, it was a whole new race! We were all just trying to survive the first few laps and as the track dried, I started really sliding around and smelling that fine Hoosier tire rubber. Corey is a marvelous young man, well prepared and a star of the future, but it's nice to see old age and experience triumph every now and then. I guess that's why they don't give trophies out before the races," grinned Krause afterwards.

Both competitors struggled on rain tires after the short but vigorous rain shower which left the track full of standing water only moments before the start began to evaporate quickly under the hot and sultry Georgia sun, with Krause going on to set fastest lap of the race by a scant four-tenths of a second halfway through the twenty-three lap contest. The fast 2-mile Roebling Road circuit is host to the popular 28th Annual LouElla Cook Southeast Division SCCA Double National Races and is an ideal "proving ground" for competitive racers.

Corey and his father, Road Racing Driver's Club Vice President and Treasurer John Fergus, are all set to head out to Topeka to defend John's fifth SCCA National Championship in the Sports 2000 class, a group of cars with which he began racing in 1980. Sports 2000 cars are a passion for those who race them, as they are wonderful, purpose-built road racing machines with a long history in UK and the USA.
