SOLO: 2007 National, ProSolo shcedules released

2007 Tire Rack SCCA Solo Schedules Announced

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 25, 2007) -- Sports Car Club of America has announced the nineteen dates that will make up the 2007 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour and ProSolo schedules.

Composed of 10 events, the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour will kick off February 24 with the Dixie National Tour in Cecil, Ga., at the South Georgia Motorsports Park, a new venue in 2007. Also new to the National Tour is a stop at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville, Ala., for the Huntsville National Tour, June 2.

The 2007 National Tour will also return to the traditional venues of Qualcomm Stadium, in San Diego, Calif., Castle Airport, in Atwater, Calif., Walnut Ridge Airport in Walnut Ridge, Ark., Gulf Greyhound, in Houston, Texas, Moore Airfield, in Devens, Mass., Grissom Aeroplex, in Peru, Ind., and Hampton Mills, in Packwood, Wash., before returning to Topeka, Kan., September 25-28, for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships at Heartland Park Topeka.

The Tire Rack ProSolo program has undergone several changes for 2007. This season will not include a points championship, instead opting for a series of stand-alone events, with the ProSolo Finale, at Heartland Park Topeka, in Topeka, Kan., September 21-22, being the sole criteria for crowning the 2007 ProSolo Champions.

Three of the seven Tire Rack ProSolo events will take place at new sites. This includes the season opener, March 24, in El Toro, Calif. While it is not the first time an SCCA Solo event has been held at the El Toro Airfield, this year's ProSolo event will use a new and much larger portion of the airfield. Soloists will encounter another new asphalt jungle in the form of Seneca Army Depot for the Finger Lakes ProSolo, in Romulus, N.Y., July 21. The third new site follows, as ProSolo will head to Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, Utah, August 11, for the Salt Lake City ProSolo.

Some more familiar venues complete the 2007 ProSolo schedule, including Walnut Ridge Airport, in Walnut Ridge, Ark.; Mineral Wells Airport, in Mineral Wells, Texas; FedEx Field, in Washington, D.C., and Hampton Mills, in Packwood, Wash.

Another change for the 2007 ProSolo season includes the use of a single-course format at select locations. The use of a single-course instead of a mirror-course opened the door for new venues in 2007 and will offer Soloists longer courses to showcase their talents as well as a faster paced event. The single-course format will still employ the popular "Christmas tree" start and will also be set up to display Soloists' reaction and first sector split times. The Walnut Ridge, Finger Lakes, and Salt Lake City events are scheduled to use the single-course format.
