Caleb Kenney Claims Second Top-5 Finish From Iowa Speedway

NEWTON, Iowa -- In Saturday's 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup race, Caleb Kenney claimed his second Top-5 finish of the season at Iowa Speedway. Fresh off a fourth place finish at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, Kenney used his Top-10 starting position to vault the #39 GoPro Volkswagen Jetta TDI to another fourth place finish.

"Backing up my fourth place run at Lime Rock last month with another Top-5 feels really great. I'm getting really comfortable with the #39 GoPro Volkswagen Jetta TDI and I'm feeling really confident going into the double header at New Jersey Motorsports Park this coming weekend," commented Caleb Kenney.

Running the short 1.3mile road course-oval configuration of Iowa Speedway, all of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup competitors had a 30 minute free practice session, where Kenney finished inside of the Top-10. He was able to use the practice session to his advantage, enabling him to qualify seventh for the Saturday evening race.

At the start of the 30-minute race, Kenney would remain seventh as many drivers in the field shuffled positions. He would run solidly in the seventh position, until a full course caution was brought out by two of the front running cars going off course, promoting Kenney to fifth.

Kenney timed the restart perfectly and climbed to third. However, Kenney was soon shuffled back to fifth by the end of the lap. Kenney held the fifth position until the last lap of the race, when he capitalized from a mistake from another competitor, giving him a fourth place finishing position.

With his second Top-5 finish of the season, Kenney holds sixth place position in the championship points standings. Kenney will next race at Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at New Jersey Motorsports Park, September 27th and 28th.
