LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 3, 2000) - Warren Stilwell, of Harteville, Ohio, took the pole for Saturday’s Round Four Pro Spec Racer race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. James Goughary Jr., of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and John Black, of Tahoe City, Calif. rounded out the top three. Under an overcast sky, Stilwell driving the No. 28 Stilwell Racing Spec Racer captured the pole after posting the quickest time in the second qualifying session with a time of 1:39.937 (81.339 mph). Stilwell, who has never lost at Mid-Ohio in the Pro Spec Racer series will be looking for his fifth win at Mid-Ohio and second consecutive win in 2000. "I ran a good lap and got a nice draft on my fast lap,” said Stilwell. "I ran a new set of tires in the second session and I think it certainly helped me get that little bit I needed to steal the pole from Goughary.” Goughary Jr., driving the No. 29 Ducksmart.com Spec Racer, was unable to retain the pole after posting the quickest time in the first qualifying session. In the second qualifying session, Goughary Jr. ran into traffic problems and was unable better his quick time of 1:40.108 (81.200 mph) from the first session. “I didn’t run as well in the second session as I had in the first,” said Goughary Jr. “With the race being so soon after qualifying I didn’t want to risk the car and knew I had a good time from the first qualifying session. I’m going to try to get in front early and make Warren (Stilwell) work for the win.” Rounding out the top-five was Bobby Sak, of West Bloomfield, Mich. And Neil Tilbor of New Smyra Beach, Fla.
