ATK Engine Powers a Jeep Wrangler to Baja 1000 Win

November 22, 2008-A Jeep Wrangler entered by Clive Skilton and ATK North America driven by four time Baja Champion Darren Skilton and Co-Driver Jon Krellwitz took the win for 4x4 SUV's at the 2008 SCORE-International Baja 1000 in Ensenada, Mexico. The race truck, branded with Team ATK decals, finished the race in 18 hours and 46 minutes. In addition to a class victory, the team was able to finish in 31st place out of 395 registered entries, beating all Class 7, 7S, Class 8, Baja Challenge and all but one Pro Truck to the finish line.

It was the first Baja 1000 appearance for ATK Engines, and their High Performance Engines Division cooked up a winning recipe for the Jeep's power plant. "After speaking with the Skilton's and Jon Krellwitz we decided to power the truck with an upgraded version of our Jeep Stroker engine" said Scott Miller, Vice President of ATK. Miller added, "We have seen great power and reliability with the Jeep 4.7 Stroker engine and decided that it would be a perfect candidate for this truck. With some minor tweaks from the ATK Performance Technicians the engine was crated up and shipped off for the race."
