Irvine, Calif (Nov. 22, 2010)-- WIDE OPEN Racing, the racing arm of the adrenaline-filled off-road adventure provider WIDE OPEN Excursions, took a remarkable third place in the Class 1 Racing Division this weekend at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
While most of the headlines go to the first-place winners in their brutish, high-powered trophy trucks, WIDE OPEN Racing pulled off this impressive feat in a four-cylinder Baja Challenge buggy. The #120 Car finished 20th overall, ahead of more than 290 vehicles including motorcycles, quads, buggies and trucks.
WIDE OPEN's race vehicles are dubbed Baja Challenge (BC) Cars, which are purpose-built off-road racecars with Subaru EJ25 engines, Weddle 4 speed manual transaxles, and custom twin A-arm suspensions with more than 17" of travel. They are capable of speeds in excess of y5 MPH.
The WIDE OPEN BC class was dominated by the BC 2 Car driven by driver of record John McInnis taking first in class followed by the BC 5 BFG Team Car in 2nd and 3rd place going to the BC 6 Car and driver off record Brian Valentine.J WIDE OPEN Sponsors include BF Goodrich, KMC Wheels, EIBACH Springs, Royal Purple, Fox Racing Shocks, KC HiLites, Azunia Tequila and Snug-Top.
"We are more than impressed with our first WIDE OPEN vehicles and drivers this year win and with everyone's performance at WIDE OPEN Racing," said Wide Open Excursions Race Manager Nick Johnson "The cars performed beautifully, which is a true testament to the men and women who designed and engineered these vehicles."
