SMD Suffers Misfortune at Primm 300

Heber, California (September 12, 2007) -- The 12th annual SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 started early and ended late for SMD Motorsports. The SCORE Terrible's 300 is a unique event in the fact that two separate races are ran during the day SMD Motorsport's David Scaroni had committed to run both races, starting his morning driving the Watson/Noe #1200 SCORE-Lite vehicle, and then later taking over for fellow driver and brother Matt Scaroni in the #27 SMD Motorsports Trophy-Truck.

After a strong start in the morning race, David Scaroni seemed poised to cruise to the SCORE-Lite victory until midway through the final lap when motor problems relegated the #1200 SCORE-Lite vehicle to 3rd place. Just as the #1200 SCORE-Lite vehicle limped across the finish line, the #27 SMD Motorsports Trophy-Truck piloted by Matt Scaroni was anxiously awaiting to take the green flag. After a strong start and first lap, the #27 SMD Motorsports Trophy-Truck was making strong progress from its 28th starting position. As the second lap began, the #27 SMD Motorsports Trophy-Truck continued to make up ground until a power steering failure sidelined the driver Matt Scaroni and co-driver Mark Cowan for approximately an hour and a half. With hope of victory gone, the race turned into a test session. After fighting the clock all day, the #27 Trophy-Truck now piloted by SMD patriarch Steve Scaroni completed the required distance for the race, albeit five minutes in arrears of the allotted time limit.

David Scaroni remarked "In a race with such high attrition, you plan and hope not to become part of it, but on days like these sometimes it's your turn. You simply have to try your hardest to overcome your problems and get a finish."

After the race, Matt Scaroni commented "While our results may not have shown what we were capable of today, we learned a lot, and we're readier than ever to begin our attempt at a victory in the 40th anniversary Baja 1000."

SMD Motorsports next race will be the 40th Anniversary SCORE Baja 1000.
