TORRANCE, Calif. (June 5, 2001) $B!>(B Typically, the Baja 500 is the first
grueling test of the season for SCORE off-road racers. This year's race was no exception with only 22 of 43 desert racers remaining eligible for Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards after finishing the 484-mile race on June 2. As it has for 15 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the off-road racers who finish every mile of every race in the 2001 Duralast SCORE Desert Series.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the five-race series. After three events, 22 racers in 12 classes remain eligible; each will have to complete the Las Vegas Primm 300 (Sept. 14-15) and the Baja 1000 (Nov. 8-11).
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who complete every required mile in the five-race series, and have the largest cumulative point total in each class, split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit prize fund. Following the Baja 500, 11 racers remain eligible as compared to 20 before the event.
The Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end SCORE Awards Banquet in December.
The following SCORE off-road racers remain eligible for the Toyota Milestone Award (TG $B!>(B denotes classes also eligible for Toyota True Grit Awards):
