Eldora All Stars Wet for Saturday

ROSSBURG, OH (April 22) -- A new version of modern math has been introduced at Eldora Speedway - rain plus cold equals zero. That is the equation in effect as inclement weather conditions have prompted a cancellation of all planned activities on the one-half mile clay oval for Saturday, April 23.

A slow moving cold front had brought in over one-half inch of rain by Friday noon, with more expected throughout the balance of the weekend, leaving the grounds and surface unsuitable for any racing action. Temperatures for Saturday were forecasted for the mid 20's with wet snow flakes expected.

On the card were the All Star Sprints in their Eldora 2005 debut, along with the Modifieds and Stock Cars. While the latter two classes will join the non-winged Sprints of the United States Auto Club (USAC) next Saturday (April 30) in Border Wars XI, the All Stars aren't slated to return to Eldora until June 25.

Guy Webb (President of the All Stars) and Larry Kemp of Eldora agreed that the cancellation was "a disappointment". Webb related that "they guys were really looking forward to Eldora, especially the autograph session and the opportunity to mingle with the fans. But, with today's economy and the exorbitant cost of travel, when the forecast is as miserable as this one, you better pull the plug early and help everyone save money".

Eldora officials have announced that the autograph session will be part of the June 25 meet, which will also kick off Ohio's Sprint Speedweek for the All Stars.
