All Stars Sprints make first of six Fremont appearances on Sat. April 27
FREMONT, OH -- When Fremont Speedway opens their gates for the first time in 2002 with an All Star sprint show on Saturday night, April 27, fans are anticipating a fresh face in victory lane. In the past nine All Star sprint car events contested on the Sandusky Fairgrounds oval, there have been nine different feature winners. Can the streak continue?
Starting on July 30, 1997, the race winner was Joey Saldana, followed by Danny Smith (5/27/2000), Frankie Kerr (6/27/00), John Ivy (9/9/00), Chad Kemenah (4/28/01), Rodney Duncan (6/9/01), Mark Keegan (7/3/01), Mike Wagner (9/7/01) and Butch Schroeder (9/8/01).
The All Stars first competed at Fremont on June 21, 1980 with fan favorite Jack Hewitt the race winner. Since then, the series has recorded 66 feature events with 30 different feature winners.
April 27 will be the first of six All Star appearances at the Fremont oval this season, and the 305 sprints and dirt trucks are also on the card. Other All Star dates include the Budweiser 40, worth $6,000 on May 25, a pair of Ohio Speedweek events, July 2 and July 4, (Miller Beer night, worth another $6,000) and a two-day show Sept. 6-7 with the Saturday Chuck Kear's Memorial and manufacturer's night event paying $6,000 to the winner.
