FREMONT, OH - When the All Star sprints visit Fremont Speedway on the speedway's opening night for the 2001 season on Sat. April 28, can a new name be added to the All Star Sprint winner's list at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds oval?
Since June 21, 1980, the All Stars have visited the Fremont oval 61 times, with 26 different drivers entering their name into the All Star record books there. The top five all time All Star winners at Fremont include Jack Hewitt with ten wins, Dave Blaney and Frankie Kerr with seven wins apiece and Rick Ferkel and Kevin Huntley each tallying four wins.
Three different winners graced victory lane in All Star events at Fremont in the 2000 season, with Danny Smith capturing the May 27 event, Frankie Kerr the June 27 All Star Ohio Speedweek event and John Ivy capturing the September 9 round.
This year the April 28 event is billed as the Keller Chevrolet Shoot-out paying $6,000 to the winner of the 40-lap race with $500 to start the A Main event.
