APPLE MOTORSPORTS SPRINT CAR OPERATIONS CEASE

THOMASVILLE, PA - Apple Motorsports Sprint Car team owner Bob Stewart has made the decision after competing Saturday at Lincoln Speedway's Kenny Weld Memorial to cease operations of the famed team.

With the halt in operations for one of the most successful teams on the tough Central Pennsylvania circuits comes the end of an era, where fans were thrilled for more than 19 years with the Stauffer family turning the wrenches for drivers such as Steve Stambaugh, Fred Rahmer, Keith Kauffman, Kevin Gobrecht, Tim Shaffer, Greg Hodnett, and Chad Layton.

The Apple Motorsports Sprint Car team earned over 250 wins alone under the guiding wrenches of Lee Stauffer, in addition to the many wins earned by his father Ed. Those wins by Lee earned him 6 Mechanic of the Year Awards. Lee credits his father and the late Kenny Weld as guiding influences in his stellar career; Weld and Ed Stauffer teamed with the late Bob Weikert to win the 1973 Knoxville Nationals, in addition to countless victories in Central Pennsylvania and across the country.

All of this would not have been possible without the support of the many sponsors both large and small, whose names are too many to mention with fear of missing anyone. Likewise, the support of the fans was unwavering in the 19 plus seasons that the Apple Motorsports Sprint Car team thrilled them, and for those reasons both Bob Stewart and Lee Stauffer will be forever grateful to their most devoted supporters.

The Apple Motorsports Sprint Car team is only hopeful that they have lived
up to and produced for it's supporters the expectations that they deserved.

It's been a wild ride, and for that, the Apple Motorsports Sprint Car team simply says "THANK YOU!"
