Sprint Cars Begin Sprint Week Tune-Up; O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds & Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks Continue Battle - Teamsters' Night
BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 1, 2001) - The Teamsters Union is having a party at Bloomington Speedway on July 13. These professional drivers are looking forward to the opportunity to visit the famous red clay and watch another group of drivers ply their trade. This group is one that really enjoys motorsports. As you drive down the interstates take note of the hints of the drivers' love for our sport. It may be in the form of a "24" or a "3" on a mudflap; or it may simply be a decal on the windshield or a sign on the bumper. Plan to join this group of knowledgeable fans for the fun at Bloomington Speedway.
At this point, it's all up to the weatherman; but we sincerely hope that July 13 will be the first time all season that the sprint cars will have the opportunity to race on the famous red clay of Bloomington Speedway for the second week in a row. With only two non winged sprint car races in the books so far, nobody is really out of the points race for the coveted Bloomington Speedway sprint car championship. However, with fewer races to count toward the championship, everybody must make each race count. This should guarantee pits full of snarling sprint cars on July 13. Kevin Thomas is still leading the points race; but Kevin Briscoe is only five points off of the pace. Most of us remember the kind of season that Biscoe had here last season; and you can bet that Thomas remembers too.
The O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds will continue their battle for their championship. This class has provided some amazingly competitive racing this season. The most recent example of this is the 25 lap duel between Troy Jarvis and Gary Trammell. It was a classic battle between a wily veteran with 18 years of racing experience and a younger less experienced driver in search of his first feature win. These drivers raced each other clean for the entire distance; and Trammell displayed exceptional sportsmanship in his congratulations to the driver who had just beaten him in a very tough race. Trammell made no excuses for the loss. He drove a great race and just got outrun by a driver who was due for the great race that he had.
The Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks points race is about as close as it can get. Greg O'Neill leads young Jeremy Hines by a single point. Brad Cummings is only 4 points off of the pace; and Trent Niflis is only 14 points back in fourth place. All of this points to the fact that anybody can win this championship. Rick Hines and his son, Jeremy, finished one - two this weekend while point leader O'Neill finished seventh. This is, of course, part of the reason that the points races are so tight.
Pits will open at 4:30 PM; grandstands open at 5:30 PM: hot laps get underway at 6:30 PM; and racing begins at 7:30 PM, Coolers are permitted; but glass containers are not. Both parking and overnight camping are free.
General admission is only $10 while pit admission is $20. As always, children 12 and under are admitted free to the grandstand with a paying adult.
