BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 8, 2001) - On July 20 the nice folks with Blue Marble will be with us to enjoy the great competition for which Bloomington Speedway is famous. They are also likely to have news about new services that they offering to their customers.
This will be the last time that the sprint car racers will have to prepare for the Larry Rice Classic, Bloomington Speedway's leg of the Indiana Sprint Week series. Since USAC doesn't have a race scheduled for July 20, it can be expected that a number of their sprint drivers will take this opportunity to get reacquainted with the famous red clay of Bloomington Speedway. Many of the USAC sprint drivers are battling for the exposure necessary to take them to the next level; and they will do just about anything that will take them a little closer to the USAC sprint car championship. Anything that might give them a small advantage the following week is certainly worth doing. The Bloomington Speedway regular sprint car competitors will be doing the same thing; but they have an additional mission. They will be attempting to improve their position in the Bloomington Speedway points race. Kevin Briscoe won his first feature of the season at Bloomington Speedway on July 6; but he still needs to run better than Kevin Thomas to take the lead in the points chase. However, Thomas won't just lay down and let Briscoe have another win. He will pull out all of the stops to get the win himself as will Josh Cunningham, two time Bloomington Speedway champion Derek Scheffel, Kevin Chambers, Jared Fox, and the rest of the Bloomington Speedway sprint car competitors. This should be a great show.
The O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Center super stocks will continue their battles for their championships.
Pits will open at 4:30 PM; grandstands open at 5:30 PM: hot laps get underway at 6:30 PM; and racing begins at 7:30 PM, Coolers are permitted; but glass containers are not. Both parking and overnight camping are free.
General admission is only $10 while pit admission is $20. As always, children 12 and under are admitted free to the grandstand with a paying adult.
