PRACTICE NIGHT IS FINAL EXAM BEFORE SEASON OPENER
BLOOMINGTON, IN (April 27, 1999) - After a winter of hard work and waiting, Friday's official Practice Night at Bloomington Speedway will be the final chance for many drivers to test and tune their race cars before the season opens on May 7.
While some drivers have already competed in a race or two, many have been waiting for the official opening of the new season. Friday's practice sessions will see some of them put their cars on the track for the first time, while it affords others the opportunity to work on setups, or try different parts.
One young hotshoe who falls into the first category is Bloomington's Kevin Chambers. The two-time AMSA mini-sprint champion is moving up to the Pennzoil Cup sprint car division this season. Friday's session will be Chambers' first laps in a sprinter, and only chance to get the feel for the bigger machine before opening night. With the gleaming black and yellow-trimmed racer on display during the Speedway's car show last Sunday afternoon, Chambers said that they plan to fire the engine for the first time this week, to make sure everything is ready for hot laps on Friday.
Many drivers in Bloomington's regular sprint car, UMP modified and Indiana street stock divisions will take to the track. Divisions that will compete in special events at Bloomington Speedway may also practice, including midgets and mini-sprints.
The practice session starts at 6:30. General admission is FREE. A pit pass is $10.
