Sodus, NY - The 2000 Dow Corning Kaman Industrial Technologies CVRA Mini Sprint Challenge Cup is set to open May 28th at the Devil's Bowl, in Fair Haven, Vermont. This past week, series organizers announced additional sponsorship from HSBC bank. With this added support, the purse for the opening race has increased. The Challenge Cup, co-promoted by Bruce Richards, of Champlain Valley Racing Association, and Fred Kaempffe, of Branich Motorsports, is sanctioned by Central New York Mini Sprints, Inc. (CNYMS). CNYMS rules will apply to the series that will feature three races at CVRA facilities. The opener at Devil's Bowl will have added significance, as it will also serve as the opening race of the 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products Central New York Mini Sprint Tour. Both of the previous tour races were postponed due to rain. The mini sprint feature race at Devil's Bowl will pay $650 to win, and $75 to take the green flag, based on a 24 car field. The race is open to 750 cc machines, as well as the usual 1200 cc cars. There will be a $50 cash bonus to the top finishing 750, with $30 to the next, and $20 to the third. Speedway Advertising of Hookset, NH, will sponsor the "Front Runner Award," a $25 cash bonus to the racer leading the most feature laps. Seymour Enterprises, of Malboro, MA, will provide a gift certificate to the feature winner. Weld Wheels will provide a gift certificate to the race "Hard Charger." After the series opener, the teams will visit Albany-Saratoga Speedway on June 7th for the second leg of the series. The mini sprint feature that night will be sponsored by Carriage Traders, of South Glens Falls, NY. Because of their support, the feature will again pay $650 to win, and $75 to take the green flag. The last race of the "Cup" will be at Albany-Saratoga on July 28th. There is a series point fund also up from grabs. Both CVRA facilities are premier facilities and well suited to mini sprint racing. During the 1999 season, Albany-Saratoga boasted the highest car counts of all the stops on the CNYMS tour, with over 25 cars at each race. Racing was quick, competitive and exciting. The Challenge Cup will feature the same, as it is expected to attract mini sprint racers from all over the northeast. The race entry fee will be $35 per car for all drivers holding a valid mini sprint license (CNYMS, AMSA, Outlaw Mini Sprints, etc). All non-qualifiers will receive $25 in tow money.
