It's official: Mike Trent, Bobby Hawks & Tim Doogs to represent WOW at ToC.

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (JUNE 30, 2002) - It's official... the Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) 360-cubic-inch sprint car sanctioning body will be represented at the Sunday, August 4, Brodix Tournament of Champions (ToC) at the Knoxville Raceway by current point leader Mike Trent of Rocheport, Mo., runner-up Bobby Hawks of Jacksonville, Ill., and Tim Doogs of Sedalia, Mo. In addition, the entry of Tracy Nichols of Columbia, Mo., will be used as an alternate for the fourth-ever ToC.

Trent has a .200 winning percentage with WOW so far this season, having won twice at the Capital Speedway in Holts Summit, Mo., aboard John Hillman's John Singer-powered J&J sprinter. Hawks earned one WOW win at Sedalia's State Fair Speedway in his own Airesman Funeral Homes- sponsored Automotive Machine/Eagle car. Doogs, winless so far in 2002, will compete in his own Salina-powered Maxim sprinter.

The Brodix Tournament of Champions invitations will formally be issued to the top 360 stars on July 8th. According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph Capitani, "We are extremely pleased with the quality of cars and drivers competing with Archie Simpson's WOW series, and know that they will be a great addition to the Tourney. In fact, I'm jealous that they had NASCAR star Tony Stewart compete with them last week at Sedalia. I wonder if Tony would want to start scratch in the 30-car field at this year's Brodix Tournament of Champions?!"

WOW will compete in the $4,000-to-win Brodix Tournament of Champions in conjunction with two other sanctioning bodies, the Nebraska Sprint Car Association (NSCA) and the WISSOTA Promoters Association, under the "Best of the Midwest" banner. Two drivers from each group will qualify for the 25-lap feature race, and those six drivers will combine their feature points in an effort to be named 'Tournament Team Champion'. They will be competing against similar six-car teams from the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), Knoxville Raceway, Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and the United Racing Club (URC) in the finale.

All forty-nine invited teams will compete under one common set of technical rules, which include use of the Brodix ASCS spec head. The event is part of the inaugural Southern Iowa SprintWeek, which starts on Saturday, August 3, at Knoxville with the track's Casey's General Stores Night at the Races. It is possible that sixty 410's and seventy 360's will be in action on the annual "Saturday before the Nationals" show. The Brodix ToC invitational runs Sunday night at Knoxville, before action switches to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa for the Monday night "Front Row Challenge" and the Tuesday night "Ultimate Challenge" sprint car races. The Front Row Challenge is a World of Outlaws (WoO) Gumout Series event, while the $30,000-to-win Ultimate Challenge is sanctioned by the non-winged Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA). Wednesday through Saturday, August 7-10, will find fans back on the Marion County Fairgrounds for the 42nd annual Mopar Parts Knoxville Nationals.
