GIBSONTON, FL - East Bay Raceway track owner Stanley Kolan has found a way to beat the record heat wave stalled over the Tampa Bay area. With temperatures between 90-95 degrees for the past 19 days, Kolan turned his thoughts to the East Bay Winternationals, coming in January and February of 1999, and put signed contracts in the mail to the All Star Circuit of Champions Bert Emick to sanction the 23rd annual Sprint Winternationals for four days, Feb. 10, 11, 12 and 13. On top of the $116,000 deal, Kolan has added a special Jean Lynch Appreciation Dash, worth $1,875 nightly.
Next, he signed a STARS late model Winternationals $96,000 contract presented by their president, Rick Gross, for a three-day show, Feb. 4, 5 and 6. Each night in that late model series will also carry the Jean Lynch Appreciation Dash, for an added $1,875 nightly.
"There is a possibility of a two or three-day 360 sprint Winternationals event with rules acceptable to six important sanctioning groups," revealed Kolan.
"We are currently contacting the ASCS Renegades, ASCS Challengers, ESS, URC, Knoxville Raceway 360’s and Florida Outlaw Sprints to see if we can accomplish this for Jan 28, 29 and 30," he continued.
"Another idea under consideration includes hosting a modified division such as the Midwest IMCA-type group for their version of a Winternationals series, and once Jean Lynch returns home from her present assignment here at East Bay, she will co-ordinate all our Winternationals events and interested groups should contact her directly at home at 724-727-7482 or fax to 724-727-2235," Kolan concluded.
