GIBSONTON, FL - In an emotional winners circle interview Saturday night at East Bay Raceway, after winning his first career sprint car feature, Johnny Gilbertson dedicated the win to Vaughan Haggadorn, a member of the Mulligan Engineering sprint car crew that lost his life in an industrial accident the week before. Starting on the front row of the 25-lap feature, Gilbertson led it all the way, ahead of runner-up Joe Melnick who held off 1997 champ Gene Lasker, Sport Allen and Roland Johnson. Paulie Milum won the Kensington Manor Dash of Cash sprint car special event.

Raceway officials announced that Doug Auld was appointed new manager of the raceway by track owner Stanley Kolan. Jean Lynch, the acting manager, will stay for a short while to complete a smooth transition.

On the fastest track surface of the year, former track champion Bobby Alexander led all 25 laps of the late model feature. A four car race for second saw Keith Nosbisch edge out brother Ken while Steve Mathis held off Jack Nosbisch, Jr. for fourth.

Forrest Gough nosed out David Schmauss in the limited late model feature. Danny Bowman settled for third ahead of Johnny Parker and Jeff Matthews.

The street stock feature was a slam bang battle to the end as Jerry Lape held off Don Gansner who just nosed out Donnie Paris, Paul Davis and Danny McCall. Thomas Hampton nosed out Rick Partridge by a bumper width to win the mini-stock main.

The Raceway will present a special 10,000 Zambelli fireworks display
Friday, July 3 along with a full racing card. -30-
