Dan Kaszubinski Sweeps Entire Empire Super Sprint Night at Can-Am.

LaFARGEVILLE, N.Y. -- After winning his heat and the four lap dash, Syracuse, N.Y.'s Dan Kaszubinski made the statement that he was the sprint car to beat Saturday night at the Can-Am Motorsports Park. With the pill draw putting his #20 on the front row, Kaszubinski led all 25 laps to win the Valvoline Cup/Empire Super Sprint (ESS) A-Main to collect $1700.

The victory was his 28th which ties him with rival Lance Yonge and Craig Keel for fourth on the all-time ESS career win list. To make it more of a story, it was also the second win in three events since the trusty 1987 Bobby Allen chassis was brought back out after a wild flip at Cornwall that totaled his newer Maxim.

"The up front spot did help us but the car felt strong right from the start." said the modest driver who beat Yonge to the finish stripe. "I'll tell you, Lance and I do seem to have a neat little rivalry going. But, he has just been so good this year and when I saw the #17 on the scoreboard it just gets your mind going. It's like the days when you saw the #19 (Mike Woodring) up there. Yes, we won but he came from the back again, he is just having an amazing year."

Yonge did pass his 11 other rivals to place himself in second right after a late race lap 21 restart. But, while it was a note worthy charge to the front, Kaszubinski was stout and Yonge never could muster a challenge. "I asked how close he was to me but they said that he really didn't get any closer. That does make you feel good." The driver of the Autotech of Syracuse backed mount noted. "The track was real tricky tonight, it was tough to find a fast groove. But, after they worked on it during intermission it did get faster and that helped me. Now it's time to go to Utica tomorrow and do it all over again."

At the finish it was Kaszubinski over Yonge, father Mike VanDusen just edged son Jeff for a wild three/four finish with Mike Stelter in for a very strong fifth place finish after starting in 15th. The next five was made up of Doug Emery, the Rt. 37 Building Supply #10 of Jeff Cook, Shawn Donath, John Karklin Jr. and Bobby Podolak.

Just three yellows slowed the fast pace on the big half-mile. On lap five Kyle Moffit and Don Sharp Jr. came together ending their night early. It was a hard impact for Sharp as he was second in points coming into the event. Luke Eriksen spun around on lap 13 with Matt Norrie and Bubby Kerrick getting involved after Alain Bergeron lost power on lap 21.

Taking the Car Mate Trailers heat events were Cook, R.C. Faigle and Kaszubinski, the Rt. 37 Building Supply/Walt's Hobby Dash was won by Kaszubinski and the KSE Racing Products B-Main was copped by Kerrick.

ESS NOTES: A total of 25 sprints in the pits to kick off the 4th of July weekend with a big crowd on hand as well--Making his first ESS start after many years was New Hampshire's Jeff Ries, however engine problems forced him pit side after warm-ups--The victory for Kaszubinski was his first at Ca-Am since 2002 but his fifth overall leading all competitors--The Lane's Yamaha hard charger bonus once again went to Yonge who ironically is sponsored by ESS great Mal Lane and his Watkins Glen, N.Y. business.
