NEDROW, N.Y. -- After three successful seasons on the United Racing Club (URC) circuit, Nedrow, N.Y.'s Doug Emery is making his return to the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) for a full assault on the 2004 points championship.

The 15 year sprint car veteran that has five ESS A-Main victories to go along with one URC triumph will again pilot the Patterson Motorsports #33 for the upcoming season which marks the 21st consecutive for the New York based 360 organization. Along with teaming up forces with good friend and fellow ESS competitor John Karklin Jr., Emery is loaded for bear in hopes of claiming his first ever sprint car championship.

With the distinction of being the only driver in history to win an ESS and URC feature event in the same year (2002) and coming off the most successful season ever for Karklin (4th in points with 2 A-Main wins in 2003) the expectations are high. Two cars, a brand new Kramer Williamson built Kramer-Craft and an Eagle chassis as a back-up are the frames of choice and two motors from Jimmy D's Speed and Machine of Syracuse, N.Y. will supply the power for Emery. Karklin with have two J&J sprinters at his disposal along with Jimmy D engines.

After three years on the URC trail with the Patterson family, the New York native is back where his heart is and that's racing sprinters in the Empire State. "I had a great time running with URC, I think I proved to many critics along with myself that I could be competitive with those teams. We had good results and the Patterson's gave me great equipment to compete." said Emery. "But, my feelings were always with ESS, I have so many friends that run there and it will be nice to kick tires with them in the pits. I'm lucky, the Patterson family will still help me (they will also supply a car for Williamson on the URC circuit) and with the great help that John (Karklin) will give me I'll have the best equipment ever."

In the three years with URC, Emery posted an 8th, 9th and 11th placing in points along with being named the most improved driver for the 2002 season. With ESS, he has placed in the top five in points twice with several more top ten points efforts on his resume'.

"By running URC it got me to change my style some and get faster on the bigger tracks. Most of the tracks they run are fast, half-milers and that was my weakest part of my experiences behind the wheel." noted Emery who continues to build his learning curve. "Now I'm more confident on the fast tracks and I've always been fast on the bull rings which now gives me a great shot for the ESS title. I think I'm a better driver, a more complete driver and now is my shot."

ESS will be busy bringing the best of "America's Race Cars" to several tracks from Quebec to Pennsylvania. Some 30 dates will fill the schedule and with top names such as champion Mike Lutz, Justin Barger, Dan Kaszubinski, Lance Yonge along with the Emery/Karklin teaming fans can expect some of the best sprint car action seen this side of the Mississippi.
