Empire Super Sprints Celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday With the First Two Race Weekend.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Memorial Day Weekend is a time to honor those that have given their all for the freedom that we live in. On Sat. and Sun. May 26 & 27 what better way to celebrate than to watch "America's Race Cars" perform.

The Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Tour 2001 will make a weekend jaunt to the Stateline Speedway on Sat. and the Eriez Speedway on Sunday for the first two race weekend of the year. The homes of the super late models, but on this weekend the fender and roof divisions will have to step aside as the winged warriors of ESS are set to invade. The 1/3rd mile Stateline Speedway with it's banked turns produces wild sprint action annually. Steve Dow won his first ESS A-Main in 2000 over veteran Bob Podolak just 364 days earlier.

Both Dow and Podolak will head a contingent of nearly 30 sprinters to Busti, N.Y. The paper clip shaped Eriez Speedway will host the ESS machines on Sunday night. It took to this show before Mike Woodring won his first feature event of 2000. He beat Dan Kaszubinski to the line in the exciting event. Woodring is already a winner in 2001 with his triumph at Little Valley on May 18 and currently leads the points by a slim margin over Canandaigua winner Randy Years and Mike Stelter. All these stars along with local favorites Tom Taber, Tim Zimbardi and Scott Bonnell will showcase some of the best sprint action seen in these parts. Fans are also reminded to take notice of the ESS rookie crop for 2001 which looks to be one of the best ever. Sixteen year old Kyle Drum and young female sensation Erin Crocker are already in the top ten in points after the first two shows.

Newcomer Tim Barnard has also qualified in his first two ESS outings as well. The future of ESS looks brighter than ever. Three Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events, the KSE Racing Products B-Main and the 20 lap A-Main will thrill the fans on each night. Stateline/Eriez Speedways...full blown late models and winged sprint cars. Sounds like excitement guaranteed!!! <pre> Past Empire Super Sprint Winners at Stateline/Eriez Speedways.
