The Pennzoil Winged Sprint Series pulled into Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday night for their only appearance of 1998 on the high banked 1/4 mile oval.
Twenty winged sprinters signed into the pits for the evening's 30 lap feature. Jeff Bloom dove low under race leader Phil Thomas with three to go to take home the victory. Danny England was the fast qualifier with 10.661.
Front row starters Rob Randa and Steve Bunge ran wheel to wheel for eight laps before Randa wrestled the lead away from polesitter Steve Bunge on lap 11. Bunge spun one lap later. Bunge restarted at the rear of the field and Randa was never challenged for the point in the final 24 laps. It was Randa's second win of the season. Runner up Sean Monahan posted his best finish of the year.
Ken Knight started fifth in the Street Stock A Main and battled tightly most of the race with Regan Ford. Knight moved around Ford with five laps to go to win his third feature win of 1998. Randy DeMaggio led all 15 laps in the B Main, holding off Earl Roth and his teammate Tim Moore. The C Main saw plenty of action as the top three cars battled down the backstretch three wide, a lapped car made it four wide and the group went en masse into the wall. Dave DeBash was the surprise winner.
Robbie Loving won his second figure 8 feature event of the season. Bob Studt battled early with Loving but suffered a flat tire late in the 20 lap feature, finishing ninth.
