Grays Harbor Raceway 2005 Season Promises Great Racing Action

As Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA begins the 2005 racing season on Saturday, April 30th, it will enter it's eighth year under the management of Brownfield Promotions, Inc. with the goal of continuing the upgrading and improvement of the facility and in bringing the best in "Dirt Track Racing" to the fans of the Northwest.

Once again fans will be treated to some of the finest racing available in the northwest with twenty-nine race dates on the 2005 schedule for the fans enjoyment. When not being treated to their weekly show of Sprints, Modifieds and Hobby Stocks, and bi-weekly appearances of the Cruisers and USAC Ford Focus Midgets, the fans will be entertained by the return of the "Evergreen State Sprint Challenge", "Shipwreck Beads NorthWest Modified Nationals", "Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Shoot Out" and, of course, the "World of Outlaws", along with the "Northern Sprint Tour" and "Outlaw Late Models".

Already the biggest Modified show in the west, the "Shipwreck Beads NorthWest Modified Nationals" has grown to a three-day event in 2005, with $10,000 of the $54,000 purse going to the winner of Saturday night's feature event. Scheduled to run June 16, 17 & 18, this change moves the "Shipwreck Beads NorthWest Modified Nationals" into a position to draw cars and drivers from around the nation and will bring even greater recognition to Grays Harbor Raceway and the surrounding area.

The Northern Sprint Tour's annual "Northwest Speedweek" will again wrap up it's week of fast paced action at Grays Harbor raceway with the "Evergreen State Sprint Challenge" on July 15 & 16. New to Speedweek in 2005 is the "Beach Hut Vacation Evergreen State Sprint Challenge Fanfest Party" on Thursday the 14th. Dedicated to the loyal fans of NST the Fanfest Party will feature a live remote radio broadcast, Car Show & Meet, Greet & Autograph Session, Favorite Driver & Best Appearing Car contest, Great Eats and Drinks and Live Music. Thursday is usually used only as a rest and repair day by the racers but it now becomes another exciting day for fans and racers alike

The Dirt Inc. "World of Outlaws" Sprint Series will again be center stage for the biggest happening throughout the year, the "Big E" Weekend, on August 25, 26 & 27. The "Big E" Weekend will kick off with the Northern Sprint Tour's "North/South Sprint Challenge" on Thursday with the 'Thunder & Lightening' "World of Outlaws", featuring the world's best Sprint Car drivers bringing on the wheel banging wing-to-wing action on Friday and Saturday.

Not only will there be the great racing action available during the "Big E" Weekend, "Elma Outlaw Days" will provide extra attractions all weekend to keep the fans entertained. On tap are citywide Garage and Sidewalk Sales, Quarter Midget Exhibition Races, Lawn Mower Races, Food & Vendor Booths, a Grand Parade, Live Music by the "Penguins", Celebrity Go-Kart Races, Old Time Fiddlers and more.

Closing out the 2005 season will be the "Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Shoot Out" and "I-5 Outlaw Late Models" on September 10th. With a $1000 to win, this is the biggest Hobby Stock race of the year and continues to grow with each new season.

What else is new at Grays Harbor Raceway in 2005? When the 2005 action starts, a new face will be on the flag stand. Grays Harbor Raceway welcomes the former Assistant-Flagman at New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey, Kevin McElvaine, who has moved across the country to take over Flagman duties.

As the fans and racers enter Grays Harbor Raceway for the first time in 2005 they will notice a few changes. Construction has begun on the new concessions and rest rooms behind Section 'C' and sponsor signs on the back straight have been moved to turns one and two in preparation for the installation of new grandstands on the back straight. In the pits new food concession and restroom facilities have been constructed for the benefit of the drivers and crews.

Starting this season, the Hobby Stocks and Cruisers will use a new handicapping system to determine lineups in an effort to make the racing even better. Also, two additional races featuring the Late Models will be run on Friday nights, May 20 and July 22 with the Hobby Stocks and Cruisers joining the action.

For 2005 adult ticket prices have remained the same and ticket gates will open one half hour earlier, at 4:30 PM, with racing still scheduled to start at approximately 7:00 PM.

Pre-season Playdays are scheduled for April 16th and 23rd for drivers in all classes. Grandstands will be open to the public for these two test and tune days with limited concessions available.

Champions from all classes, Sprint - Jay Cole of Shelton, Modified - Scott Miller of Shelton, Hobby Stock -- Joe Lambert of Shelton, Midget - Nick Frausto of Redmond and Cruiser -- Doug Marcou / Dale Inmon of Montesano are reported to be returning to action in 2005.

Along with the defending champs, expect to see a return of most of last year's fields along with several new drivers.
