ASCS Gulf South Region set for Thunder Valley Speedway
TULSA, Okla. (May 19, 2003) - The American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region resumes action this Sunday night, May 25, at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA. In the sixth stop on the ASCS Gulf South Regional tour in 2003, an additional $300 bonus is being offered to Sunday evening's fast qualifier.
Defending series champion Kelly Angelette of Thibodaux, LA, leads the way into Sunday's action with a slim four point advantage over Todd Johnson of Eunice, LA, who is seeking to improve upon his runner-up showing in last year's ASCS Gulf South Region points.
Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, enters the weekend ranked third in points, with rookie contender Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale, TX, a solid fourth. The leading lady of the ASCS Gulf South Region, Tina Creswell of New Braunfels, TX, rounds out the current top five in Gulf South points.
Completing the current top ten in ASCS Gulf South points entering Sunday night's event at Thunder Valley Speedway are Brandon Berryman, Cody Pearson, Larry Howery, David Forbis and Stephen Chevallier.
Expected to make his 2003 ASCS debut is Amite, LA, driver Michael Dupuy, who finished second in points on the ASCS National Tour last year. Houston's Rick Behr, currently ranked in the top ten in O'Reilly ASCS National points, is also expected to be in competition as he makes his way home following Friday and Saturday night's ASCS National events in Missouri.
Sunday night's racing action is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m.
Thunder Valley Speedway is located 9.5 miles west of Glenmora, LA, on Highway 113 in Union Hill. For additional information, contact the track at 318-748-4473 or ASCS Gulf South Region coordinator Keith Johnson at 337-457-4498.
