Jason Johnson Eyes 600 Nationals; Pre-Entry Deadline on Friday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 10, 2008) -- Louisiana's Jason Johnson has enjoyed a near career year in the Sprint Car ranks.

He opened the season with a $10,000 score in the "King of the 360's Nationals", won the ASCS Speedweek championship, earned a $50,000 bonus for posting a pair of wins in the Ollie's Challenge, won the Brodix Tournament of Champions and is in the driver's seat for the $50,000 O'Reilly ASCoT championship.

Now, Jason Johnson has his sights set on the $7,500 winner's share up for grabs in the Third Annual 600 Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires, which takes place September 19-20 at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway.

Johnson joins forces with car owner and Eagle chassis manufacturer Jerry Russell in his bid for 600 Nationals honors.

It will be "The Ragin' Cajun's" second attempt at the prestigious Micro Sprint Car racing event. And he can only hope for better results than the first time out, as his 2006 attempt ended with a memorable launch off the I-30 Speedway turn one banking, through the Arkansas air and into a catch fence.

"We've got those problems fixed, the car will turn now and everything," Johnson laughed as he recalled the incident.

In fact, Johnson has spent several nights aboard the 600-cc Micro getting tuned up, picking up a POWRi win in Pittsfield, IL, just a few days after his historic take of $56,000 at Williams Grove Speedway.

Johnson, and several other Sprint Car regulars, will take on a talent-laden field of Micro Sprint specialists in I-30 Speedway's Third Annual 600 Nationals. Leading the Micro charge will be the likes of defending race winner Jerrod Wilson and inaugural 600 Nationals champion Travis Senter, Jr., who captured his 100th career Micro feature win in a tune-up event this past weekend at I-30 Speedway.

Racers planning on competing in next weekend's Third Annual 600 Nationals are reminded that they can save $100 by submitting their entry by the Friday, September 12, deadline. Entries submitted prior to the deadline are just $150, with the entry fee after the September 12 deadline at $250.

The Third Annual 600 Nationals offers up a lucrative $7,500 winner's share, with a minimum of $500 just to start the Saturday night championship feature event. All Non-Qualifiers on Saturday will receive $275.

The Horizon Mini Sprints (Restricted "A" Class) will be in action on both Friday and Saturday night, with I-30 Speedway's Sprint Car division joining in on the Saturday night, September 20, action.
