Popular SCRA Car Owner Passes On...

Funeral services were held June 5th at the Gamby Mortuary in Lomita, CA for popular Sprint Car Racing Association car owner, Bob Michnowicz, who passed away Thursday night May 29th at the age of 60. Motorsports in general, and open wheel dirt racing specifically, has lost great friend, fan and competitor. Despite an ongoing battle with medical problems and an off-season heart attack which arose from complications with his illness, Bob had continued to be a presence at every SCRA race in which his son, Bobby, competed this year right up to the May 24th event at The Perris Auto Speedway. While his trackside activity had slowed somewhat he had remained an integral and contributing part of the team and if you had not known him before you would hardly believe that the man had been at death's door just a few month's before. It remains for each of us who knew him to gauge his or her loss and place it the perspective necessary to continue with our own lives, but for myself I know that I shall sorely miss his smile and handshake, ALWAYS profered despite the thrash that might have been occupying the team upon my arrival in the Michnovicz Racing Team pit. I know that I have lost a friend.

For myself and all those at Fugawi MotorSports, we extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Bob's wife, Belita; his son Bobby and his family; to all those at MRT/Timeless Enterprises; and to his many friends and competitors at race tracks across the country with whom we share this loss.

Vaya con dios, Bob... Jeff Angell
