J&J Auto Racing weekly news 2003-07-09

McKenzie, TN (July 8) -- While the country celebrated Independence Day last weekend, J&J Auto Racing teams celebrated victories and a Speedweek title. Loren Langerud swept a pair of WISSOTA sprint car events while Fred Rahmer proved consistency is the key to winning Speedweek titles. Donny Schatz, Mike Ward and AG Rains also won feature events last weekend driving J&J sprinters.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS

Donny Schatz raced from the middle of the field to win last Wednesday's O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature at Sedalia's State Fair Speedway. Schatz, who started outside the fifth row, drove his #15 Parker Stores J&J around Steve Kinser between turns three and four late in the 24th lap.

"This is a great win for this team," Schatz said. "This is an awesome win for this whole Parker Stores team. We have been racing very well this past several weeks, staying up near the front running with the leaders. My crew -- Tyler (Swank, crew chief), Keith (Giles) and Chad (Lambert) -- have worked so hard to give me great racecars. This is as much their win as mine. Consistency pays off, as does hard work. It is all part of being a team."

The win was number three for Schatz in WoO "A" feature action and he continued running strong with the Outlaws running from 16th finish starting to finish fourth at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. On Monday, Schatz finished second at Cedar Lake Speedway leading 25 of the 40-lap feature event.

PA SPEEDWEEK

Fred Rahmer and the Joe Harz Racing team proved consistency is key as he claimed the 13th annual Pennsylvania Speed Week title on Monday night. Rahmer, who raced the #88h J&J to victory lane in Thursday's Lap Harry's U-Pull-It Pennsylvania Speedweek Sprint Car Feature at Susquehanna Speedway, scored three runner-up finishes during the six race Speedweek. The Speedweek title was Rahmer's sixth title.

Lance Dewease (Hamilton #77 J&J), Keith Kauffman (Middleswarth #7 J&J), Doug Esh (Leach's Automotive #30 J&J), Len Thompson (Crawford #CIII J&J), and Blane Heimbach (Creasy Signs #12 J&J) had good showings during the Speedweek for J&J.

DELTA BOWL SPEEDWAY

Mike Ward made it two wins in a row racing his #88 J&J at Delta Bowl Speedway in Tunica, MS. Ward used a lap car to work around to take the lead on lap six in last Thursday's special event and went on to win the feature race.

CLINTON CO. SPEEDWAY

Blane Heimbach won Friday's fourth running of the Nittany 50 at Clinton County Speedway. Presented by Middleswarth Potato Chips, Heimbach raced from his sixth place starting position in the #12 J&J and took command of the event on l ap 28. He went on to lead the final 22 laps and to claim $1,200 for the win.

WISSOTA Sprint Cars

Jackson Speedway

Loren Langerud took the lead on lap 11 in last Saturday's WISSOTA feature event at the Jackson Speedway. Langerud patiently worked his #56 J&J sprinter to the front and followed early leader Brett Geldner during the first six circuits before challenging him for the lead on lap 10. After taking the lead on the following lap, Langerud was never headed in the green-to-checkered event winning his first ever feature at the Jackson Speedway.

Dodge County Speedway

Loren Langerud made it two for two in WISSOTA action winning the feature event at Dodge County Speedway from ninth starting position in his #56 J&J. The two victories have moved Langerud into the WISSOTA points lead.

MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARK

AG Rains stole the show as he won Saturday's sprint car feature at Memphis Motorsports Park driving his #3 J&J.

Antioch Speedway

Billy Fraser won his second main event this month at Antioch Speedway aboard his American Auto body,Bedford Motorsports sponsored J&J Auto Racing sprinter in Antioch CA.

Other strong J&J Performances:

USAC Silvercrown

Donny Schatz scored a career best 11th in last Friday's Weld Racing USAC Silvercrown event at Pikes Peak International Raceway. The finish was Schatz's best in only four pavement starts in his #115 ParkerStores J&J USAC Silver Crown car.

World of Outlaws

Several J&J teams competed in the NAPA Classic at legendary Knoxville Raceway this past weekend. Ricky Logan looked strong in Friday night's opener piloting the #17G J&J as he won the first Dash race and was among the leaders during the 25-lap preliminary feature before ultimately finishing fifth. Sammy Swindell set fast time on Saturday night in the Roth #1 J&J. Daryn Pittman raced from 20th into sixth place on Saturday night in the Sherdon Motorsports #21 J&J before losing a magneto with four laps remaining in the 40-lap feature. Skip Jackson and Adam West were also J&J competitors in the field at Knoxville.

Swindell also came home third on Monday night at Cedar Lake Speedway in the Roth #1 J&J.

GLOSS

Paul May finished second in the GLOSS Summer Nationals opener at Gas City Speedway. He finished second in his race and fourth in dash and started fourth before racing Mikes' Auto Wrecking #71m J&J.

Jackpot Junction Series

Scott Broty recently won three consecutive feature events at Arlingtion Speedway in Minnesota. Broty won two weekly events at the track before taking the June 27 Jackpot Junction Series race in his #33b Lawson Maintenance J&J.
