Bryant, AR - Lewis Jenkins probably never thought there'd be a bounty on him. After winning seven consecutive feature races at the high-banked I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AK, the stakes have increased as local businessman, Jerry Davis and his Affiliated Foods Grocery Chain, have put a bounty out on Jenkins offering any driver $5000 to beat him on Saturday. If Jenkins can win the 30-lap feature, he'll get $7500 and the $1200 winner's share from the track.

"It's going to be pretty exciting going from the hunter to the hunted," said Jenkins. "We messed up a little the first two weeks, but since then we've been on a good roll. We won't change anything that we're doing. The J&J car has been really working good, so we'll just come out and do the same thing and hope for the best."

Jenkins, who has been racing for 10 years, has won the I-30 track championship three times in the last four years (1997, 1999, & 2000). His J&J sprinter is sponsored by Team Affiliated, ABC Block, and J&J Truck Plaza and has product support from J&J Auto Racing, Huggins Cams, Pro Shocks and American Racer tires.

"Jerry Davis is a great ambassador to our sport," continued Jenkins, who won 8 of 17 races at I-30 in 2000. "He likes to put up some money so that the fans have something exciting to watch. I think it's great and I'm sure his bounty on me will attract some other guys into town. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mike Ward, Terry Gray, and Gary Wright rolling in trying to get $5000 for the bounty along with the $1200 for winning. I know Glenn Passmore has been right behind me the last few weeks, so he'll have to be dealt with too."

I-30 Speedway runs a typical program with qualifying and heat finishes determining the starting lineup for the feature event. Jenkins, who has won all but two features at the quarter-mile oval this season, has started from several positions during his recent streak, but admits having the car on the cushion is the key.

"This is what racing is all about," said Jenkins, who hails from Bryant, AR. "The $7500 would be a nice midseason bonus and would probably carry us through the rest of the season as far as momentum goes. We've been having a lot of fun and no matter what happens next week, we're going to enjoy the ride."
