2002 Kele World Challenge Qualifying Races Set To Kick Off In US With Gold Cup And National Open

MEMPHIS, TN (AUGUST 31) - Now that the dust, or should we say sparks, have settled from the 2001 Kele World Challenge, sprint car competitors can now begin the qualifying process for next year's 10th annual Kele World Challenge, which will be held at the Knoxville Nationals on August 9, 2002.

For the second consecutive year, the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA, which will be held September 6-8, and the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA, on September 28-29, will serve as qualifiers for drivers from Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

All competitors in the January 26-27, 2002, Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Victoria (Australia), and the February 2, 2002, show at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, regardless of their nationality, will qualify for next year's Kele World Challenge.

"We are very pleased to see the growing list of entrants in the Kele World Challenge," said Roger Johnson of Kele O.E.M. "The qualifying races in the Untied States at the Gold Cup and the National Open allow racers to qualify in some truly great events, making them eligible to compete in an event that continues to become one of the highlights of the season."

"As far as the international qualifying races go, The Classic in Warrambool is as prestigious as they come, and the sport continues to grow in New Zealand at great facilities like Western Springs. It was a real thrill to have representatives from all of our qualifying tracks be a part of this year's Kele World Challenge, and hopefully things will continue to build each year. Our goal for this race is to continue promoting sprint car racing as an international sport."

15 drivers representing the United States, Australia and New Zealand competed in the 2001 Kele World Challenge on August 10th.
